Christmas
message of His Eminence Metropolitan
of Spain and Portugal Bessarion
Dear all,
In a world that is changing around us so quickly and dramatically, we Christians face the challenge of living and celebrating Christmas. Unfortunately most of us only "celebrate" with very beautiful lights, decorations, gifts and many impressive wishes. How beautiful! How nice! And at the same time... how empty , how empty and how tragically false when these will cease to exist after the festive season is over.
Our Christ,
born in darkness, speaks of Himself saying "I am the light of the
world". Our Christ, addressing all of us, says "you are the salt of
the earth”.
Truly ,
where is the light that we received from Christ in our baptism , so that we too
can illuminate the darknesses of the world ? Where is the sweetness of our
faith and our life, so that we may take away the bitterness that has spread
through the world from wars , murders , lies and injustices ?
Let us fall
on our knees , my brothers and sisters , before Christ who is being born , and
let us beg Him HONESTLY to become His true friends by letting Him be born in
the cave and manger of our hearts. Only then can we be called CHRISTIANS , when
we illuminate the darknesses of this world , when we forgive and love our
enemies , when we savor the bitterness and hypocrisy of human relationships with
our bright smile , our warm embrace saying with the language of body and soul
that "Christ is in us and is and is in us"
Christ is
born, praise be!
Light of Christ, illuminating all.
A merry and blessed Christmas!
