Τό Οἰκουμενικόν Πατριαρχεῖον μέ ὀδυνηράν ἔκπληξιν ἐπληροφορήθη ὅτι τό ἁρμόδιον δικαστήριον τῆς Αἰγύπτου ἔθεσεν ἐν ἀμφιβόλῳ τό ἀπό αἰώνων κρατοῦν ἰδιοκτησιακόν καθεστώς τῆς ἱστορικῆς Ἱερᾶς Μονῆς τοῦ Σινᾶ, ἀναγνωρίζον κατ᾽ οὐσίαν εἰς τήν ἐκεῖσε μοναστικήν ἀδελφότητα μόνον δικαίωμα χρήσεως ἐπί τῶν περιουσιακῶν στοιχείων αὐτῆς.
Ἀπογοήτευσις καί θλῖψις εἶναι ἡ ἀντίδρασις τῆς Πρωτοθρόνου Ἐκκλησίας τῆς Ὀρθοδοξίας, ἡ ὁποία ἀνέκαθεν περιβάλλει τό σεβάσμιον τοῦτο καθίδρυμα τοῦ Αὐτοκράτορος Ἰουστινιανοῦ μέ στοργήν, θαυμασμόν καί εὐγνωμοσύνην διά τήν προσφοράν του ἐπί αἰῶνας εἰς τήν πίστιν, τό Γένος, τόν πολιτισμόν.
Τό Οἰκουμενικόν Πατριαρχεῖον κάμνει ἔκκλησιν πρός τήν Αἰγυπτιακήν Κυβέρνησιν, ἐπί τῇ βάσει καί τῶν χθεσινῶν δηλώσεων τοῦ Προέδρου τῆς χώρας Ἐξοχ. κ. Ἀμπντέλ Φατάχ Ἀλ Σίσι, νά ἀνεύρῃ τόν ἐνδεδειγμένον τρόπον διά νά διατηρηθῇ τό ἰδιοκτησιακόν καθεστώς (status quo) τῆς Ἱερᾶς Μονῆς, τό ὁποῖον ἐσεβάσθη ἰδιαιτέρως καί διεσφάλισε προνομιακῶς ἐπί αἰῶνας καί τό Ἰσλάμ, καί νά ὑλοποιήσῃ τήν πρόσφατον συμφωνίαν αὐτῆς μετά τῆς Μονῆς. Ὁ σεβασμός τῶν ἀπ᾽ αἰῶνος κρατούντων καί ἡ τήρησις τῶν συμφωνηθέντων ἠμποροῦν νά βοηθήσουν τήν Μονήν τῆς Ἁγίας Αἰκατερίνης νά συνεχίσῃ τήν θρησκευτικήν καί πολιτισμικήν ἀποστολήν της ἀπό τήν Χερσόνησον τοῦ Σινᾶ, ὅπου ὁ Θεός ὡμίλησέ ποτε πρός τούς ἀνθρώπους.
Οἱ αἰῶνες ἐσεβάσθησαν τήν Μονήν τοῦ Σινᾶ. Ἄς τήν σεβασθῇ σήμερον καί ἡ Αἴγυπτος, ὡς μία πολιτισμένη καί εὐνομουμένη χώρα, σεβομένη τάς θρησκευτικάς ἐλευθερίας καί τά ἀνθρώπινα δικαιώματα γενικῶς.
Ἡ Μονή τοῦ Σινᾶ εἶναι πολύτιμος κεκτημένος θησαυρός διά τήν χώραν τοῦ Νείλου, ὁ ὁποῖος περιποιεῖ τιμήν εἰς αὐτήν καί συνδέει συμβολικῶς καί οὐσιαστικῶς εἰς τό ἔδαφός της τάς δύο μεγάλας θρησκείας τοῦ Χριστιανισμοῦ καί τοῦ Μουσουλμανισμοῦ.

The Ecumenical Patriarchate was painfully surprised to learn that the competent court of Egypt has called into question the centuries-old ownership of the historic Holy Monastery of Sina, recognizing in essence only the right of use of its assets to that monastic brotherhood.
Disappointment and sadness is the reaction of the First Throne Church of Orthodoxy, which has always surrounded the venerable foundation of Emperor Justinian with affection, admiration and gratitude for its contribution over the centuries to faith, the Nation and culture.
The Ecumenical Patriarchate makes a congregation to the Egyptian Government, on the basis of yesterday's statements by the President of the country, His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, to find the appropriate way to maintain the status quo of the Holy Monastery, which has been particularly respected and privileged for centuries by Islam, and to implement its recent agreement with the Monastery. Respect for the eternal holders and the observance of what has been agreed upon can help the Monastery of St. Catherine to continue its religious and cultural mission from the Sina Peninsula, where God has always spoken to people.
The centuries have respected the Monastery of Sina. Let Egypt respect it today, as a civilised and law-abiding country, respectful of religious freedom and human rights in general.
The Monastery of Sina is a precious acquired treasure for the land of the Nile, which honours it and symbolically and substantially links in its territory the two great religions of Christianity and Muslimism.
